Weekly Evaluation
Pied Piper
Week 9
Introduction: This week was the second week of the run of the Pied Piper, but I also found a modern monologue for my auditions and Scott and Emma have both helped me in between shows so that I can get them underway. However, by the end of this week I had hairspray poisoning, which meant that I was rather ill for the last four shows. The shows, themselves, were good at times but we unfortunately had to cancel the Monday and Sunday evening show, due to the lack of ticket sales, which upset me a lot as I have sold so many. The show ended well and I hope that January will be even better and they will be sold out.
Strengths:
• I was always in on the call time and ready to work
• I have sold the most tickets in the company by miles
• I took on board the directors notes given and followed any new direction
• I helped cover up anything then went wrong
• Even though I was ill I pushed it so that my part in the show wouldn’t be completely crap
• I looked after my costume well and was always ready on time
• I had good projection and diction, I managed to stay in my accent
• I adapted the scenes for kids and I interacted with the audience by asking them questions
• I didn’t take the mick out of the audience members and respected them
• I worked hard on my monologues and took any direction given on board
• I spent my times wisely, either working on my monologues or resting
• I had a lot of fun performing
• When I went out into the interval I stayed in character and interacted with the audience
• Michael and I are working really well together, especially when covering up any mistakes on stage and he has helped me out a lot.
Weaknesses:
• I was sometimes very passive and unfortunately my energy was affected a lot by the illness
• I always seemed to have less energy in the matinees, but I should always be on my game
• I sometimes came in with the wrong line and luckily we were able to keep it covered
• Sometimes my actions and reactions could be bigger and more towards the audience so that I actually include them in it
• I could have more intention in some of the scenes, because I need to remember that this isn’t realistic and to make it as big as possible
• I shouldn’t be afraid to just go for it and try new things all the time and make them as outrageous as possible, as long as it doesn’t distract the story
• I let my lack of energy affect my performance but I should just go for it
Action Plan:
• Keep working on my character over the Christmas Holiday
• Make sure that my diary is completed by the time we come back in January
• Take what I have learnt from this run and improve upon it for January
• Make sure that I take on board any new notes given by the directors
• Continue to work well with those in the scenes and make them even better
• I should hopefully be better then I was so I can really up my game
• Come back in January with a bang and just go for it
• I need to make sure that I have a lot of energy and not let it drop in the matinees
• Sell even more tickets, if that is possible
• Don’t forget to adapt it for the audience, I could include them even more into the scenes
• I could work on my intention, especially in ‘Walk This Way’
• Keep on experimenting and keep the scenes fresh
• Make sure that I react to what is happening in the scenes and I’m not being passive
• Don’t get complacent I need to go for it fully
• Continue to have fun and enjoy myself, because it will make it more fun for the audience to watch.
Development of Character: This week has been a busy week for shows as we have had a matinee everyday apart from Tuesday. I have had a lot of fun and I haven’t yet got bored of it. I have tried to keep on experimenting with the scenes but sometimes my lack of energy is stopping me from doing so. At times I have had to fill in with the set transitions but I am doing it in character which is making it much stronger and less boring to watch. I think I could interact with the audience even more still, so I will think about it over the Christmas Holidays. I am still working really with the actors around me and this week they have been very supportive of me, as they have helped me by taking some of my lines or covering up spaces, where I am not dancing, or helping me on set transitions. I am very grateful for this as it has meant that I have saved my energy. By the end of the week my character wasn’t very strong at all but this was due to illness and I pushed her as hard as I could. I know that I still could make her even bigger so in January I will return with a lot of energy and full health, I hope.
Reading: I have finished reading ‘Under a Blood Red Sky’ by Kate Furnville, I really enjoyed it, as it came closer to the end of the book I couldn’t put it down. This story was a very gripping tale, which included a passionate love and bravery for a friend. I really like Furnville’s books, especially as they are set in different historical times, which are very interesting. This book was set in communist Russia and really showed the struggle for the people during that time and the amount they were pushed to reach Lenin’s vision. Although this tale is based on the love of two people and the spritial magic of a gypsy’s mind, it is a thrilling book, which people who like a slightly tougher read then a chick flick will really enjoy.
